Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar says President Bola Tinubu’s $516 million loan request to fund sections of the Sokoto–Badagry superhighway amounts to a reckless fiscal choice. Tinubu had asked the national assembly to approve a $516,333,007 foreign loan to support the construction of sections of the Sokoto-Badagry superhighway project on Thursday. A letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and read during plenary, said the loan is to be sourced from a syndicated financing facility by Deutsche Bank and will fund sections 1, 1A and 1B of the project, covering about 120 kilometres. Tinubu had requested that the loan be included in the federal…
At the launch of Nigeria’s Strategic Plan 2023–2027, a significant milestone was recorded for Oyo State, marking a new chapter in its Agribusiness transformation drive. It is with great satisfaction that we report the approval of our submitted request for support, a development that underscores the growing recognition of Oyo State’s strategic vision and commitment to Agricultural development. Notably, Oyo State has been selected as one of only five states across the federation to benefit from the AGRA 3.0 investment initiative—emerging as the sole representative from southern Nigeria. This achievement reflects the state’s proactive policies, institutional readiness, and sustained efforts…
US President Donald Trump says the United States has total control over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical sea passage for crude oil. Control for the waterway has been contested since the war between the Iran and US/Israel broke out in February. Iran’s de-facto blockade of the strait crippled oil flow worldwide, hiking prices and forcing governments to take hard-biting energy conservation measures. A ceasefire deal between the warring countries led to Iran declaring the Strait of Hormuz open to commercial traffic. But that decision was reversed less than 24 hours later. Iran accused the US of “piracy” and “sea robbery” following Trump’s decision…

In a statement on Wednesday, Sani Uba, media information officer at the headquarters of the Joint Task Force (north-east), Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), said the mission followed search and rescue operations conducted by troops around the Mandara mountains. Uba said JAS fighters fired projectiles into Gwoza in a “desperate but ineffective response”, but there were no casualties or damage. He added that troops also repelled “coordinated” terrorist attacks at Kanama, Ngoshe and Banki. “The attacks, which occurred at various times during…

Bimbo Adekanmbi, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election following a consultative visit to members of the Oyo State House of Assembly. Members of the Oyo State House of Assembly have unanimously passed a vote of confidence in Governor Seyi Makinde and the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, describing as unfounded the circulating rumours of an impeachment plot in the state. The resolution followed Wednesday’s plenary session in Ibadan, where lawmakers reiterated their backing for both the executive arm under Makinde and the legislative leadership led by Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin. The Majority Leader, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin, representing Ogbomoso South State Constituency, moved the motion during the sitting. In his submission, he characterised the allegations as “baseless, distracting, and politically motivated.” While presenting the motion,…
