The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is holding its presidential primary election today across the country. The exercise is taking place in 8,809 wards and 774 local government areas (LGAs). Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Rivers state, and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, former managing director of the defunct FSB International Bank, are contesting for the party’s presidential ticket. The party is proceeding with the primary after several attempts to adopt a consensus candidate hit a brick wall. The winner of the contest will face President Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) standard-bearer for the 2027 presidential election, and Peter Obi, the consensus candidate of…
Two years ago, the people of Lagelu placed their trust in me, not because I had all the answers, but because we shared a common belief: that our communities deserve a government that works for them, that sees their struggles, honors their dignity, and unlocks their extraordinary potential. In the grassroots governance space, where decisions touch lives most directly, two years can feel like a whisper in time, or at best, they can become the foundation of real and lasting change. Today, as we mark this second year count in office as Chairman of Lagelu Local Government, we do so…

President Donald Trump says the United States has reached an advanced stage of negotiations with Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Control of the strategic waterway has been contested since the war involving Iran, the United States and Israel broke out in February, with diplomatic efforts stalled for months. Trump had earlier warned that the strait would remain “sealed up tight” until Iran agreed to a deal with the United States. The blockade of the channel has disrupted global oil supply chains, sending crude prices soaring and forcing several countries to adopt strict energy conservation measures. On April 27, Iran proposed a new…
President Bola Tinubu has recorded a sweeping victory across several states as the All Progressives Congress (APC) held its 2026 presidential primary election on Saturday. In many of the results already announced, the president defeated Stanley Osifo, his lone challenger, who recorded zero votes in several states. In Rivers state, Tinubu polled 280,468 votes, while Osifo recorded zero votes across the 23 LGAs of the state, according to Siminalayi Fubara, governor of…
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) says it declined the request of African Democratic Congress (ADC) leaders to see Nasir el-Rufai on the basis of an existing court order. The party had accused the anti-graft agency of intimidating its leaders with heavy deployment of policemen, after being denied access to the former Kaduna governor at the detention facility in Abuja on Friday. El-Rufai has been in the custody of the ICPC since February 19 over alleged financial impropriety during his tenure as governor of Kaduna State between 2015 and 2023. On March 28, he was, however, granted temporary leave to attend his mother’s funeral.…
