The Lagelu Ward 5 Youth Leader, Ajimoti Sulaiman, and former Lagelu Supervisory Councillor, Hon. Olanrewaju Jamiu, have debunked a video circulating on social media suggesting that they had defected from the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pledged their allegiance to the APC governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli.
The duo described the interpretation of the video as misleading, insisting that their appearance at the event held at Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort was not a declaration of defection or an indication that they had abandoned the APM.
According to them, they attended the gathering after their principal and former Chairman of Lagelu Local Government, Hon. Kazeem Gbadamosi, contacted them that morning and asked them to accompany him to an event.
They explained that they were not informed beforehand that the gathering would involve political declarations or an atmosphere that could subsequently be interpreted as a public endorsement of another political platform.
The two APM loyalists said their presence at the venue should therefore not be misconstrued as a political defection, stressing that they remain committed to their political family and the leadership they have continued to support.
They particularly reaffirmed their loyalty to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Governor Seyi Makinde, and the leaders and stakeholders of Lagelu Local Government, stating categorically that they did not decamp to the APC alongside their former principal.
The clarification comes amid reports that a political gathering at Ilaji Resort recently featured declarations of support for Senator Sharafadeen Alli and the APC ahead of the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.
Ajimoti Sulaiman and Hon. Olanrewaju Jamiu maintained that their participation in the particular gathering should not be used to create a false impression about their political affiliation.
They urged members of the public, particularly supporters and stakeholders in Lagelu, to disregard interpretations suggesting that they had abandoned the APM, describing such claims as a misrepresentation of the circumstances surrounding their presence at the event.
The duo further appealed to party members and supporters to remain calm and avoid drawing conclusions from a video clip without understanding the circumstances that led to their appearance at the gathering.
They concluded by reiterating their continued commitment to the APM and their loyalty to Governor Seyi Makinde, as well as the recognised leaders and stakeholders of the party in Lagelu Local Government.
