A youth group within the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ido Local Government Area, Omititun 3:0 Reality, has accused some leaders of the party of allegedly working behind the scenes to undermine the party’s candidate for the State House of Assembly election in favour of the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Adenike Suliat Yusuf.
The group alleged that some APM leaders in the local government were secretly supporting Suliat Yusuf, who is the ADC candidate, against the APM candidate, Rafiu Omotosho.
In a statement issued on the development, Omititun 3:0 Reality alleged that the purported plot was linked to the leadership of the APM in Ido Local Government and its overall leader in the area, Mallam Muili Yusuf.
According to the group, Mallam Yusuf allegedly used his influence within the APM to secure the ADC Assembly ticket for his daughter, Adenike Suliat Yusuf, and subsequently mobilised support for her candidacy.
The group further alleged that part of the strategy to weaken the APM’s chances in the election was to support what it described as a “weaker candidate” to emerge as the party’s Assembly candidate.
It claimed that the emergence of Rafiu Omotosho as the APM candidate was part of an alleged plan designed to make it easier for the ADC candidate to defeat the APM in the election.
The youth group said the alleged activities of some party leaders could undermine the electoral prospects of the APM and create confusion among its supporters ahead of the poll.
Omititun 3:0 Reality added that it would not be surprised if Omotosho eventually lost the election to Adenike Suliat Yusuf, given what it described as alleged internal efforts to weaken the APM candidate.
The group called on APM members and supporters in Ido Local Government to remain vigilant and closely monitor developments within the party ahead of the election.
The allegations could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report. The APM leaders mentioned in the allegations, including Mallam Muili Yusuf, were not immediately available for comment.
