The Muslim Community of Oyo State has strongly condemned kidnappers who attempt to justify their crimes with references to Sharia law, stressing that such individuals do not represent Islam or the Muslim population in the state.
In a statement issued on Friday, June 5, 2026, the community described the use of religious rhetoric to defend kidnapping, extortion, and other violent crimes as a gross misrepresentation of Islamic teachings.

According to the statement, Islam unequivocally prohibits kidnapping, terrorism, and the exploitation of innocent people for financial gain.
The group emphasized that genuine Sharia principles are rooted in justice, peace, and the sanctity of human life, values that are completely incompatible with the actions of criminal elements.

The Muslim Community also announced special prayers for the safe return of the abducted students and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area, while urging security agencies to intensify efforts to secure their release and bring the perpetrators to justice.
