The Oyo State House of Assembly has taken decisive steps to address rising concerns in the State ‘s real Estate sector , following the consideration of a report presented by the Standing House Committee on Lands, Housing, and Survey.

In his presentation, the Committee Chairman, Hon. Bamidele Adeola, representing Iseyin / Itesiwaju State Constituency, who highlighted the critical challenges to include fraudulent activities, unregulated agents, and persistent Land Grabbing, called for the prompt adoption of resolutions aimed at restoring orderliness in the sector and protection of residents in the State.

The plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin urged the Executive Arm of Government, through the Oyo State Ministry of Lands , Housing and Urban Development to take immediate and strategic actions in ensuring the establishment of a comprehensive database for registration of all Real Estate Developers operating within the State.

According to the lawmakers, this will enhance transparency, promote accountability, and curb fraudulent practices as well as illegal extortion of residents.

The House also emphasised the need for the Ministry to intensify its engagement with various house agents associations across the State, inorder to ensure proper registration, eliminate unregistered and unscrupulous agents, and ultimately safeguard the interests of both tenants and landlords.

In a bid to ensure coordinated urban development, the plenary further called for stronger collaboration between the Government and Private Estate Developers , noted that such synergy will help align private sector activities with the State’s Physical development control plans.

Addressing the persistent menace of land grabbing, the lawmakers urged the Executive Arm, through the Oyo State Properties Protection Agency Task Force to intensify its operations in some Local Government such as Ido, Akinyele, Iseyin, Ona – ara, among others.

The House however reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe , transparent and well-regulated property market in Oyo State, stressing that these measures are critical to protecting residents and fostering sustainable urban development.
