The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the submission of lists of candidates by political parties for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The Commission announced that the deadline, originally scheduled to end on Saturday, July 11, 2026, has now been extended to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, giving political parties additional time to complete the submission process.
According to INEC, the extension followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), which requested more time on behalf of political parties that were unable to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates within the stipulated period.
INEC explained that the decision reflects its commitment to ensuring an inclusive electoral process while operating strictly within the provisions of the law.
The electoral body urged all political parties to make effective use of the extension by completing the upload of all required information before the new deadline expires.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
