The Member representing Lagelu State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Olajide Akintunde (AKT), has congratulated Muslims across Lagelu Local Government, Oyo State, and Nigeria at large on the commencement of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1448 AH, urging adherents of all faiths to embrace peace, tolerance, and the true teachings of their religions. The Islamic New Year 1448 AH began with the month of Muharram this week, marking a period of reflection, renewal, and spiritual commitment for Muslims worldwide.
In a goodwill message issued to commemorate the Hijrah anniversary, AKT described the migration of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Makkah to Madinah as a timeless lesson in sacrifice, perseverance, unity, and unwavering faith in God.
He called on Nigerians to use the occasion to rededicate themselves to nation-building, peaceful coexistence, and the pursuit of justice, noting that no religion promotes violence, terrorism, kidnapping, or criminality.
According to him, “It is unfortunate that some individuals continue to hide under the guise of religion to perpetrate acts of terror and insecurity. Islam, Christianity, and other recognized faiths preach peace, love, and respect for human life. We must collectively reject every attempt to use religion as a cover for violence, extremism, and criminal activities.”
The lawmaker further urged religious leaders, community stakeholders, and parents to intensify efforts at promoting moral values among the younger generation while supporting security agencies in their quest to rid the nation of criminal elements.
Speaking on the recent abduction of school pupils, teachers, and a principal in Ogbomosho, AKT expressed deep concern over the incident and appealed to residents to remain calm and hopeful as security agencies continue rescue operations.
He prayed for the safe and unharmed return of all those held captive, stressing that the thoughts and prayers of the people of Lagelu Constituency remain with the affected families during this difficult period.
“While we share in the pain and anxiety of the families, we must not lose hope. I believe that with sustained efforts by security agencies and divine intervention, the abducted pupils, teachers, and principal will regain their freedom and reunite with their loved ones soon,” he stated.
AKT also called on governments at all levels to intensify measures aimed at tackling insecurity across the country, particularly in schools and rural communities, to prevent future occurrences.
He concluded by wishing Muslims a peaceful and rewarding Hijrah 1448 celebration, praying that the new Islamic year brings renewed hope, prosperity, security, and progress to Lagelu Local Government, Oyo State, and Nigeria as a whole.
