The ancient town of Lagun in Lagelu Local Government area on Friday erupted in celebration as thousands of residents, supporters, and well-wishers turned out en masse to welcome the Executive Chairman of Lagelu Local Government, Alhaji Mudashiru Kamorudeen during his first Jum’ah prayer following a successful Hajj pilgrimage to the Holy Land of Mecca.
From the early hours of Friday, the usually serene community transformed into a sea of people. Men, women, youths, market women, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and party loyalists lined the major roads and pathways leading to the central mosque. The atmosphere was electric, filled with drumming, singing, chanting of praises, and emotional displays of affection for the young and dynamic Chairman.
Eyewitnesses described the crowd as “unending,” with people stretching across several kilometers. The reception has been described by political observers as one of the most remarkable homecomings witnessed in the local government area in recent times, clearly underscoring Chairman Kamoru’s deep-rooted popularity and strong grassroots acceptance among his people.
Adding glamour and significance to the event was the presence of several high-profile dignitaries who were in attendance. Notable among them were Hon. Akintunde Olajide Emmanuel, Hon. Lafisoye Akinmoyede, and several other prominent political leaders, alongside respected traditional rulers and religious figures. Their participation further underscored the high level of goodwill and cross-sectional support the Lagelu helmsman enjoys.
The grand reception holds special significance as it marks not just the Chairman’s safe return from the sacred fifth pillar of Islam, but also his first Friday congregational prayer with his kinsmen after the spiritual journey. Dressed in pristine white attire befitting a Hajji, Chairman Kamorudeen moved through the town in a humble yet triumphant manner, stopping intermittently to exchange pleasantries, hug supporters, and acknowledge the warm embrace of the people.
Political analysts and community leaders believe the massive turnout is a powerful testament to the Chairman’s performance in office, his accessibility, and his commitment to the welfare of Lagelu residents.
