Hon. Olajide Akintunde (AKT), the lawmaker representing Lagelu State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, has extended warm felicitations to the good people of Lagelu Local Government, residents of Oyo State, and Nigerians at large on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

In a statement issued to commemorate June 12, AKT described Democracy Day as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey and a day set aside to honour the sacrifices, resilience, and courage of patriots who fought for the enthronement and sustenance of democratic governance in the country. June 12 remains a symbol of Nigeria’s democratic struggle and is officially observed nationwide as Democracy Day.
The lawmaker urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their commitment to democratic ideals, national unity, peaceful coexistence, and active participation in governance, noting that democracy thrives when citizens and leaders work together for the common good.

While celebrating the nation’s democratic progress, Hon. Akintunde expressed deep concern over the recent abduction of school pupils, teachers, and a principal by suspected bandits in Ogbomosho and other security challenges confronting the country.
He passionately appealed to the Federal Government and all relevant security agencies to intensify efforts and deploy all necessary resources toward securing the immediate and safe release of the victims. According to him, the safety of school children and educators must remain a top priority, stressing that no family should be left in anguish due to insecurity.

“Democracy can only flourish in an atmosphere of peace and security. As we celebrate this year’s Democracy Day, I urge the Federal Government and security agencies to redouble their efforts in ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted pupils, teachers, and principal. Nigerians deserve to live, learn, and work without fear,” AKT stated.
The lawmaker further prayed for the continued peace, progress, and prosperity of Nigeria, while wishing all citizens a memorable and rewarding Democracy Day celebration.
He reaffirmed his commitment to quality representation, people-oriented legislation, and the overall development of Lagelu State Constituency and Oyo State.
