The ancient town of Eleruko came alive with culture, unity, and celebration as residents and dignitaries gathered to mark the recently concluded 9th Igbo Elerin Day Celebration, a yearly event dedicated to promoting heritage and fostering community development.
The event, which came up on 11th of April, hosted under the leadership of Baale Olawatosin Olusegun Oladimeji Akintola SEGELU, the Eleruko of Eruko, was highlighted by the presentation of Awards of Excellence to notable indigenes who have made significant contributions to the growth and progress of Eleruko towns.
In his address, Baale Eleruko commended the awardees for their commitment, selfless service, and impactful roles in uplifting the community. He described the honorees as “pillars of development and worthy ambassadors of Eleruko,” noting that their efforts continue to inspire unity and progress among the people.
A total of eleven distinguished individuals were recognized during the ceremony. They include: Prince Abayomi Oladimeji SEGELU, Prince Damilare Akanmu, Prince Alhaji Taliat Idowu Agbaje, Reverend S. O. Abodunrin, Apostle Bayonle Ibitoye, Apostle Gbadebo Adepoju, Elder Olukunmi Fakorede Fasanya, Mr. Olushola Fakorede Fasanya, Pastor Dr. Emmanuel Olaniyan, Mr. Abioye Muritala Jimoh, and Chief Mrs. Adebesin Rinu Eunice.
The event also witnessed the presence and support of Oba Basiru Adesina, the Elejioku of Ejioku, whose attendance added royal prestige to the celebration.
Speaking on behalf of the award recipients, one of the honorees expressed gratitude to the Baale and the entire Eleruko community for the recognition, pledging continued dedication to initiatives that will drive development and unity in the town.
The Igbo Elerin Day celebration featured cultural displays, traditional music, and communal interactions, reinforcing the rich heritage of the people while strengthening bonds among indigenes at home and in the diaspora.
The 9th edition of the festival has once again underscored the importance of collective responsibility and recognition of excellence as key drivers of sustainable community development.
