In a remarkable celebration of culture, heritage, and youthful leadership, Baale Olawatosin Olusegun Oladimeji Akintola, popularly known as SEGELU, has been honoured with the Youngest and Outstanding Baale Award at the 9th Igbo Elerin Day Celebration held on Saturday, April 9, 2026.
The prestigious award was presented by the Council of Igbo Elerin Baales in Lagelu Local Government, in recognition of his exceptional leadership qualities, unwavering commitment to the promotion of Yoruba culture, and dedicated service to the development of Ibadanland.
Since his installation as the Baale of Eleruko on October 14, 2024, Baale Olawatosin has continued to distinguish himself as a visionary and progressive traditional leader. Under his leadership, several impactful initiatives have been introduced to foster peace, unity, and socio-economic development within Eleruko town and its neighbouring communities.
Speaking while receiving the honour, Baale Olawatosin expressed profound appreciation to the council and the entire community for finding him worthy of the recognition. In a notable display of respect and statesmanship, he dedicated the award to His Excellency, Governor Oluwaseyi Makinde, in appreciation of the Governor’s steadfast commitment to cultural preservation and consistent support for youth leadership across Oyo State.
The colourful event was graced by the Executive Chairman of Lagelu Local Government, Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen Morenikeji, alongside traditional rulers, community leaders, and prominent sons and daughters of Igbo Elerin.
The recognition of Baale Eleruko has been widely described as a beacon of hope and inspiration for greater youth participation in traditional leadership, community governance, and the preservation of cultural values in the region.
