Competence Over Zoning: Why Dr. Afolabi Remains Best Choice for Ona-Ara State Assembly

As political conversations continue to gather momentum ahead of the forthcoming Oyo State House of Assembly race in Ona-Ara, it has become important to appeal to party leaders, stakeholders, and the good people of the local government to carefully prioritize competence, vision, and capacity for effective representation above sentiments surrounding zoning.

While concerns have been raised in some quarters regarding the issue of zoning, particularly based on family roots and the emergence of other aspirants from Constituency 2, it is necessary to place facts and the broader interest of Ona-Ara people at the center of the discussion.

Dr. Temitope Afolabi remains a proud son of Ona-Ara whose permanent residence and active political engagement are firmly rooted in Olopometa, Ayekale of Ward 9, Constituency 1. Over the years, he has built strong ties with the people at the grassroots, identifying closely with their aspirations, challenges, and developmental needs.

Beyond questions of ancestral background, what should matter most at this crucial moment is who possesses the capacity, preparedness, and people-oriented vision to effectively represent the interests of Ona-Ara at the State House of Assembly.

It is also worth noting that the present party leadership structure within the local government already reflects balance and inclusiveness, with the party chairman, council chairman, and vice chairman all emerging from Ward 5 in Constituency 1. This clearly demonstrates that political leadership in Ona-Ara has never been solely defined by rigid zoning arrangements, but by trust, competence, and the ability to deliver.

The aspiration of Dr. Temitope Afolabi should therefore be viewed through the lens of service, proven ability, and developmental promise. His vision for improved infrastructure, youth empowerment, quality education, healthcare access, and stronger grassroots representation stands as a major opportunity for Constituency 1 and Ona-Ara as a whole.

At a time when our people yearn for purposeful leadership and impactful representation, the focus should be on electing the most competent and visionary individual who can bridge the gap between the grassroots and the corridors of power.

This is not a call against fairness, but an appeal for a more progressive and people-centered approach—one that places merit above political arithmetic and gives room for excellence to thrive.

The future of Ona-Ara deserves leadership built on ideas, capacity, and commitment to development. If given the mandate, Dr. Temitope Afolabi is well positioned to bring meaningful growth, effective representation, and lasting progress to the zone.
