A potentially tragic incident was averted in Ibadan as a distressed young mother, reportedly battling emotional and psychological hardship, was intercepted while attempting to abandon her newborn baby by the roadside.
The timely intervention of Aare Musulumi Ajorosun/Egbeda and Aare Arowosadini of Ibadanland, Alhaji Abdulateef Adigun Ajeye, popularly known as KOKONBILO, proved decisive. Displaying rare compassion and humanity, KOKONBILO swiftly stepped in, prevented the act, and took both the mother and her newborn to a nearby hospital where they are currently receiving medical attention and care.
Further demonstrating a collective commitment to social responsibility, the Executive Chairman of Lagelu Local Government, Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen accompanied by the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Idogbe Aduragbemi, and Jet Royal publisher and media aide to Ooni of Ife, Hon. (Mogaji) Yusuff Afolabi paid a solidarity visit to the hospital. They were joined by KOKONBILO and the Chief Imam of Opa Musa Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdulfatai Afenifere and other respected community leader, .
During the visit, the delegation met with the grandmother of the young mother, who provided insight into the troubling circumstances surrounding the incident. She revealed that the young woman had been away from home for an extended period and had been living around the Iwo Road axis, particularly at a filling station identified as Rose Wale. It was during this period that she reportedly became pregnant under unclear circumstances.
Deeply moved by the situation, the Lagelu local government chairman, Hon. Kamorudeen and Alhaji Abdulateef KOKONBILO have taken decisive steps to rehabilitate and reintegrate the young mother into society. An apartment has been secured to provide her with shelter, while arrangements are underway to establish a sustainable business that will support her livelihood and ensure a stable future for both mother and child.
In a further show of compassion and cultural inclusion, plans have been finalized for the naming ceremony of the newborn, scheduled to hold on Thursday, 26th March, 2026, in the Olodo Garage area of Ibadan.
This remarkable intervention underscores the enduring values of empathy, responsive leadership, and community solidarity within and outside Lagelu Local Government, as leaders and stakeholders continue to demonstrate that governance goes beyond policy-making to embracing humanity at its core.
